Remember when you didn't know what a roguelite was? Probably not. But despite the flood of them washing over the market, the genre continues to boom with interesting new takes on the format. The latest of these is Zengeon, which sets itself apart with a couple of novel twists. The game looks kind of like an anime Diablo, but when you actually get into it the game's systems are more reminiscent of something like The Binding of Isaac. You choose from six unique characters which, even putting aside their flashy looks and characters, do a great job of each offering their own feel once you get stuck in. Permadeath is, of course, a thing here, as are procedurally generated levels, which means that finding your strongest character and mastering them is really all you have when it comes to gaining an edge in Zengeon. That mastery will really come into its own when it comes to choosing power-ups, as the game essentially has you building your character on the fly as you pick between procedurally-generated buffs. Zengeon also boasts a co-op mode - something that will come in particularly handy as you grapple with its automatic difficulty scaling and hordes or baddies to bash.
