"Originally starting life on the N64, this bike racing series was, for a time, the Nintendo answer to Sony's Wipeout, offering high-speed, combat-based driving action amidst atmospheric futuristic environments. Now in its fourth instalment, and with a cross-platform release, Extreme G returns, bringing a host of new race types, mission objectives and unlockable content to the fray. Most racing games come with a story these days and XGRA is no different. Following a fictional F1 disaster in 2025, a body known as the Extreme Gravity Racing Association is set up as a regulatory governing body for all heavy gravity race events. As such, it is the XGRA that make the rules and organise events, in much the same way as, say, FIA or NASCAR. Within this body exists a deep and complex community of highly competitive teams, unforgettable riders and unbelievable sponsors, all clamouring for the right to stand atop the XGRA and claim the title of Champion. More specifically, there are a total of eight teams with which you can forge your new virtual racing career, each offering unique histories, sponsors and rivalries. Once you have decided between them you then go on to work your way through a full season, which features various classes and race types. Success throughout the season leads to the acquisition of new stuff via the game's new rewards system, which allows you to unlock various extra content, such as game modes, tracks, faster bikes, and character-enhancing cybernetic implants. Also new to the series is a revised weapons system, which allows you to easily select and use weapons without fear of losing focus on the race. The Extreme G series has always delivered competent and well-made racing games - XGRA follows suit, featuring a solid driving experience, impressive environments, and a load of new stuff thrown in for good measure. "
