Star Trek - Shattered Universe PS2

There is no shortage of space-combat shooters in the world of video games. The Star Wars franchise is generally considered to be the most prominent series in the genre, but while these games are perhaps the most popular, there are other game series that have a hold on the market too. One such example is Star Trek, and with the help of TDK and Take 2, the much vaunted Shattered Universe is finally on offer for PlayStation 2. Something of a retro venture for Star Trek and its fans, Shattered Universe is surprisingly based upon the original TV series. But here, the mighty Federation isn't much of a federation at all. On the contrary, the human race and its alien counterparts are under serious threat from a new and relentless foe. Trapped in a mirror version of your own universe, you'll be forced to battle with known allies and break the rules in order to survive and restore your world to its former Federation glory. And of course, that's where the combat comes in. In what is a graphically stunning adventure from developer Starsphere, players are charged with piloting a series of armed-to-the-teeth and agile ships though a large series of hostile gaming levels littered with Klingons, Romulans, Tholians and several other alien races. The shoot-em-up experience as a whole is fairly standard, but the retro theme is novel. Additionally, players can develop newly acquired technology and more powerful weapons and shields in a kind of upgrade system. So there you have it, lots of lots of space, lots of aliens and lots of weapons. It's just what you need for a classic shooter.
