You won't find a more spot-on tagline for a game than 'New thrills, classic feels', the slogan SEGA has adopted for Sonic Superstars. This is old school high speed Sonic The Hedgehog platforming with a couple of new school tricks. The headline among those new tricks is, undoubtedly, the addition of co-op multiplayer. Up to four friends can team up as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose to blast through levels at incredible speeds. Superstars also features loads of new special abilities called Emerald Powers. 'Avatar', for example, spawns loads of Sonic clones who run around the screen causing absolute bedlam, while others might allow you to swim up waterfalls or reveal hidden platforms. For all the new goodies, however, Sonic Team has gone to pains to capture the magic of classic Sonic's pixelated art style and the feel of those 2D levels, then bring it across to a 3D world (the fact that it's largely a sidescroller does, of course, help). Superstars is, heart and soul, a classic Sonic The Hedgehog game.
