By the year 2058 humans have established research stations on the moon. It's only 59 years after the TV sci-fi series "Space 1999" told the tale of the occupants of Moon Base Alpha and their singular dilemma of being thrown out of Earth orbit. Uncannily, Moon's proposition isn't a million light years from that TV show. Instead of Moon Base Alpha, it's Lunar Outpost Alpha, and instead of drifting beyond the Oort cloud, Moon's inhabitants find themselves in a pickle, having unearthed (or should that be "unlunarred"?) a hatch beneath the Moon's surface. Players take on the role of Major Edward Kane, Chief of Military Operations for the Extra-Terrestrial Encounter Organisation. Called in to investigate strange energy readings and missing personnel, it isn't long before the mysterious hatch is the centre of attention. Instead of leaving well enough alone, the seal is broken and all types of unspeakable creatures are unleashed - and we're not talking about cheap sets and the laughable special effects witnessed in "Space 1999" Fans of first-person shooter should delight in this, one of just a few FPS games on the Nintendo DS. Created by Renegade Kid, the developers of the visually impressive "Dementium: The Ward", Moon delivers similar high quality visuals. And while it look more 'original Doom' than Doom 3, it's impressive for the DS.
