In fact, though not as big as they used to be, they are still in development and there is still a huge demand for these games. Next on the list is TDK's Knights of the Temple for GameCube. A game typically set in medieval times, Knights of the Temple, though a completely fictional offering, is actually one of the most realistic the genre has ever seen. It retains simplistic gameplay, whereby the player is charged with wielding swords and defeating endless hordes of evil henchman, but it's the execution of it all that makes the difference. Players have buttons for defense, high attacks and low attacks, and player animation is how it should be. After all, battling with a heavy piece of steel and some even heavier armour is bound to slow you down, and this is often reflected accurately in how your character responds to commands. What's more, your enemies don't behave like mere lemmings. Valuing their limbs and lives, they spend much of their time blocking. So, in similar fashion to the original Prince of Persia, you must fool your foes into attacking in order to exploit their weakness. The setting of the game and its visuals are often dark and dingy, but they're brilliantly rendered, giving a nightmarish charm to the proceedings. Ultimately, Knights of the Temple is an accomplished and atmospheric hack 'n' slash affair, and there's nothing wrong with that."
