Biomutant is a little bit Ratchet & Clank, a little bit Devil May Cry and a lot of Fallout. In other words, it's a post-apocalyptic RPG featuring weird cat/foxes, bears and other anthropomorphic animals and it goes big on environment traversal and combat. It's brash, it's bright and it's a lot of fun. First things first - this is no grey/brown apocalypse. Yes, there are post industrial ruins scattered around, but despite the decay much of the landscape is lush and vivid. It is, admittedly, kind of poisonous in places, which means you can't always hang around for long, but fortunately there are plenty of ways to get around the place quickly. This game is riddled with vehicles, mounts and other tools for getting about. Biomutant is designed to be fast, fluid and fun when it comes to movement, and that shows up in the combat too. It's a mix of shoot-'em-up action and up close melee brawling, with a focus on combos and a lot of variety thanks to a big fat crafting system. Throw in a spot of bullet time and you're off to the races. All of the above is delivered with a weird sense of humour (check out the the comics-style sound effects, for one), so despite it being a big meaty RPG it never takes itself too seriously. Biomutant looks set to pick up a big following pretty fast.
