We've seen Motocross, we've seen MX Superfly and we've seen Excitebike, but until now we haven't seen BAM's latest two-wheeled offering on PlayStation 2, called Riding Spirits. Verily, the piercing 'rorp' of the exhaust is upon us. With over 200 officially licensed bikes from well-known manufacturers such as Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki, Riding Spirits claims to be one of the most accurate motorcycle racing games ever created. That may be true, but having the skill to ride one of these rocket racers is a hell of a task. New players should take Riding Spirits in their stride to begin with, become familiar with the controls, and learn some of the game's lengthy circuits. Once you're feeling confident enough, you can race with the big boys for trophies and large bundles of prize money, which can then be used to upgrade existing motorbikes, improving suspension, power and grip in a Gran Turismo-style career mode. With your newly modified racers at the ready, you can test the limits of your abilities on courses where a split-second decision means the difference between victory or defeat as you throttle across 16 different tracks in America, Japan and Europe. Are you good enough to take the chequered flag? Probably, but it'll take time, and lots of practice. Riding Spirits is a very well designed game. Motorbike physics work well, and the course design encourages players to master every aspect of motor racing as they navigate long straights, hairpins and chicanes. Mastering Riding Spirits takes some time, but it's worth the effort.
