Kaido Racer 2 follow in the footsteps of the first game, offering a selection of licenced real-world cars to race around a selection of tracks. The game is set in the shady world of Japanese mountain racing - as made famous in Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. But this game improves on the last by offering more cars to race, more modification to enhance them, and a selection of new tracks.

The story puts you in the midst of a new tournament - the reigning champion has gone missing, and the pretenders are massing to take his crown. You are one of the hopefuls, and you must battle for supremacy atop the winding mountain tracks.

The tracks themselves are recreations of real life tracks from Japan, with every bump and every twist accurately modelled using laser scanning techniques. There are mountainous roads and lanes lined with colourful explosions of cherry blossom pink.

As is the way with these kinds of games, you start with an amount of money, and you can spend it on a new or used car. There are 189 licenced cars in the game, from 20 manufacturers. There are the cars you'd expect, plus a selection of older Japanese sports cars, some lacklustre hatchbacks and city cars, and even a few 4WDs.

Once you have selected your car, you have to fight your way through the rankings, winning money by beating competitors in a selection of race categories. You can spend the money you win for placing or winning races on tuning your car, or you can sell it and start from scratch with a different vehicle. There is a stunning selection of real-life tuning parts from real-life providers. Kaido Racer is not just about buying and adding parts to your car, it's also about setting them up in the way that best suits your driving style.
