Stunt-based sports games have become a lot more commonplace in recent years, with games such as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Mat Hoffman BMX proving hugely successful. Well, here's another from Midway called Freestyle MetalX. A game that throws caution to the wind, Freestyle MetalX has players somersaulting their way through myriad motorcycle arenas as they attempt to perform some wild and almost unbelievable tricks in order to rack up as many points as they can. Featuring a customisable menu, players are able to select bikes, gear and riders before taking to the tracks. Once ready, there are dozens of levels and challenges available that spread themselves across eight huge worlds. Each of the environments look great, vibrant, and boasts some great lighting effects. At the heart of the game lies what Midway has dubbed the "Virtually Unlimited Stunt System", allowing players to mix and link endless stunt combinations and even create brand new tricks in real-time. In this respect, it's very much like Activision's Pro Skater games. On the whole, the bikes handle well, and tricks are generally easy to perform. The hard part comes in keeping your performance spectacular from beginning to end. For those not happy with existing stunt arenas, Midway has also included a level editor, so players can design a course to their own specifications. In addition, there are several other mini stunt games to tackle, including Wall of Death and Tunnel of Fire.There's plenty to do and see in Freestyle MetalX, and it's all good fun.
